Itinerary
Day 1: Kathmandu / LhasaFly from Kathmandu to Lhasa. Transfer to hotel.
Day 2: LhasaTour of Potala Palace (Residence of the Dalai Lama from 1645 to 1959 when the revolution took place), Dreprung Monastery, founded in 1416 divided into four colleges, housing over 10,000 monks.
Day 3: LhasaVisit Joklang temple shrine in Tibet; Jowo – The statue of Sakyamum brought by Princess Wen Cheng 1300 years ago, Old Lhasa & Barkhor Market.
Day 4: Lhasa / Gyangtse (260 kms)Drive to Gyangtse over two passes via the fabled Turquoise Lake Yamdrok. Gyangtse is Tibet’s third most important city & famous centre for Tibet’s wool trade.
Day 5: Gyangtse / Shigatse (90 kms)Drive to Shigatse the second largest town in Tibet, Tasilhumpo Monastery (seat of Pancham Lama). Founded in 1447, its highlight being Maitreya Hall housing 27 meter tall gold plate bronze statue of Maitrey Buddha on a lotus seat.
Day 6: Shigatse / Xegar Dzong (240 kms)Drive to Xegar Dzong giving a good view of Mt. Everest & Barim Monastery built in the style of medieval Mongolian School of Architecture.
Day 7: Xegar Dzong / ZhongmuDrive to Zhongmu through medieval villages with nomads herding Goat, Gheep and Yak.
Day 8: Zhongmu / KathmanduDrive to Kathmandu (120 kms) via Friendship Bridge, the border of Tibet and Nepal.
